IMPORTANCE OF THREE STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS 06 FACTS;- 1-We live most of our life through three states of consciousness: waking, dreaming and sleeping. In the waking state of consciousness, we experience the world through the five senses. We seek elevation and joy from these senses. If any one of the senses is missing, the entire dimension of that sense is lost. 2-One who cannot hear is deprived of of the whole arena of sound. Similarly, he who cannot see is deprived of all the beautiful sights and colours. So, the sense is more important and much bigger than the object of the sense. 3-The mind is higher than the senses. The mind is infinite, its desires are many, but the capacity of the senses to enjoy is limited. Greed is wanting more and more of sensory objects. Even though one can only enjoy a limited amount during a lifetime, one wants all the wealth in the world. 4-Giving too much importance to sensory objects leads to greed; giving too much importance to the senses leads to lust; and giving too much importance to the mind and its desires leads to delusion. 5-We hold on to the concepts of the mind and want things to happen in a certain way. Thus, the concepts in our mind impede us from perceiving the infinite consciousness that is a part of us. This is not to say that the senses or the mind are bad. But we must learn to discriminate between things and be aware of what is happening at all times; that is when clarity dawns on us. This is the first step toward the higher state of consciousness. 6-In the waking state, one is constantly engaged in looking, eating, working, etc. The other extreme is the sleeping state where one is completely cut off and dull. The dullness and heaviness linger even after waking. The more one sleeps, the duller one feels since a lot of energy is expended in sleep. Then there is the dreaming state where one is neither asleep nor awake. Here, you neither feel at rest nor are aware of your surroundings. THE HIGHER STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS & ROLE OF MEDITATION;- 06 FACTS;- 1-The higher state of consciousness is somewhere in between the waking, sleeping and dreaming states. Here, we know we “are” but we don’t know “where” we are. This knowledge that I “am,” but I don’t know “where” I am or “what” I am, is called Shiva. This state gives the deepest possible rest that one can experience. And one can achieve this through meditation. 2-Meditation helps in two ways — it prevents stress from entering the system and simultaneously releases accumulated stress. With the assimilation of meditation into daily life, a higher state of consciousness called cosmic consciousness dawns within us. 3-Cosmic consciousness perceives the whole universe as part of oneself. When we perceive the world as a part of us, love flows strongly between the world and us. This love empowers us to overcome the opposing forces and the disturbances in life. Anger and disappointments become fleeting emotions that occur momentarily and then vanish. 4-A higher state of consciousness will not simply happen one fine morning. The sapling of consciousness is within you — it needs to be nurtured through spiritual practices like meditation. Some coconut trees yield in three years, and some in 10 years. And those that are not nurtured never yield, they simply exist. 5-Attaining higher states of consciousness does not require any complicated strategy; one just needs to learn the art of letting go. The confluence of knowledge, understanding and practice makes life complete. When you grow into higher states of consciousness, you find that you are no longer thrown off-balance by different situations and disturbances. 6-You become strong yet soft — a delicate and beautiful individual capable of accommodating different values in life without any conditions. As your consciousness opens and the whole system gets physically, mentally and spiritually elevated, your life truly becomes worth living. EFFECT OF MEDITATION ON BRAIN WAVES;- 09 FACTS;- 1-Meditation is not just a spiritual experience. There is an intricate (very complicated) science that explains what it does to our brain. Brainwaves which are electromagnetic energy indicate the effects of meditation on our body. 2-There is a whole lot of activity happening in our brain while we meditate and we can map it and find out about its workings.Different types of brainwaves are the root of our thoughts, emotions, and behavior. The brain waves differ according to our mood and activity. 3-Slower brain waves make us feel tired and slow whereas brain waves of higher frequency make us alert and active. There are five types of brain waves, and each stands for a particular activity. Brain waves fluctuate according to what you do and feel. 4-And, meditation can move the brain waves from a higher frequency to a lower frequency, thereby having the ability to change how you feel. 5-Our brain’s ability to transition through various brain wave frequencies plays a large role in how successful we are at managing stress, focusing on tasks, and getting a good night’s sleep. 6-Meditation has been shown to help people control their brain waves more efficiently for better health, higher performance, and a more positive experience of life.Brainwaves can be measured with an EEG, which is short for electroencephalograph. 7-Electroencephalography uses electrical leads placed all over the scalp to measure the collective electrical activity of the cerebral cortex. 8-Like sound frequencies, brain waves are measured in Hz, or cycles per second. In general, the slower the frequency of your brainwaves, the more relaxed you feel. 9-It is important to note that throughout the day in your waking state, your EEG will display all types of brainwaves at the same time. However, one particular brain wave will be dominant depending on the state of consciousness that you are in. IMPORTANCE OF BRAIN WAVES;- 10 FACTS;- 1-Every part of our body vibrates to its own rhythm. Our brain has a unique set of brain waves. In neuroscience, there are five distinct brain wave frequencies, namely Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta and the lesser known Gamma. 2-Learning mind control at the deeper states of consciousness opens us up to the world of our subconscious mind where we can create our reality at will and with exact precision. 3-Each frequency, measured in cycles per second (Hz), has its own set of characteristics representing a specific level of brain activity and hence a unique state of consciousness.It’s important to understand how our brain contributes to the state of our mind. 4-While most of us focus on looking at our emotions in an attempt to become happier, more spiritual beings, our brain waves and our subconscious mind also play a key part in our quest for fulfillment. 5-We easily forget that we are the controllers of our reality ..and that “our reality” is not made up of outside influences, but that it actually consists of our thoughts, beliefs and mindset. 6-Therefore, by learning about the deeper states of consciousness, we can open our subconscious mind and create our reality at will, and with precision. To do this, the first step is understanding our different brain frequencies. 7-Different part of the brain gets stimulated in a particular manner during meditation.Brainwaves are produced in the cerebral cortex, which is the cerebrum’s (brain’s) outer layer. The frontal lobe which plans and reasons switch off during meditation helping you detach and relax. 8-Thalamus which channelizes sensory information in the body slows down enabling you to keep calm. Parietal lobe which gives you a sense of time also slows down helping you to become stress-free. 9-The reticular (reticular formation is a set of interconnected nuclei that are located throughout the brainstem; it includes neurons located in diverse parts of the brain.) keeps your brain alert and helps you respond to situations. During meditation, the reticular activity lowers allowing you to keep calm and be peaceful. 10-Here we are looking at our five brainwave frequencies and how they affect our state of mind &Contribute to The State of Mind .To get a clear understanding, let’s learn about the different kinds of brain waves... THE FIVE KINDS OF BRAIN WAVES;- 1. BETA (14-40Hz)-(The Waking Consciousness & Reasoning Wave);- 05 POINTS;- 1-Beta brain waves are associated with normal waking consciousness and a heightened state of alertness, logic and critical reasoning. 2-While Beta brain waves are important for effective functioning throughout the day, they also can translate into stress, anxiety and restlessness. 3-The voice of Beta can be described as the little nagging chatterbox of our inner critic, which becomes louder and more relentless the higher you go in the range. Therefore, with a majority of adults operate at Beta; it’s little surprise that stress is today’s most common health problem. 4-Beta waves occur with a frequency range 12 to 30 Hz. They become active when the brain is working on goal-oriented tasks, such as planning an event or pondering over an issue. 5-Function- Beta waves create awareness and improve concentration. They increase logical thinking and develop your conversational abilities. 2. ALPHA -(7.5-14Hz);- (The Deep Relaxation Wave) 05 POINTS;- 1-Alpha brain waves are present in deep relaxation and usually when the eyes are closed, when you’re slipping into a lovely daydream or during light meditation. 2-It is an optimal time to program the mind for success and it also heightens our imagination, visualization, memory, learning and concentration. 3-It is the gateway to our subconscious mind and lies at the base of our conscious awareness.The voice of Alpha is our intuition, which becomes clearer and more profound the closer you get to 7.5Hz. 4-Alpha waves are the most common brainwaves that occur at the beginning of meditation as you try to go into a deeper state of mind. They are electromagnetic oscillations with a frequency range of 8Ð12 Hz. 5-Function ...Alpha waves calm the nervous system. They lower blood pressure and heart rate. The waves lower the production of stress hormones and promote relaxation. 3. THETA (4-7.5Hz); (The Light Meditation & Sleeping Wave);- 07 POINTS;- 1-Theta brain waves are present during deep meditation and light sleep, including the all-important REM dream state.REM sleep is the fifth and last stage of sleep that occurs in the sleep cycle, preceded by four stages of non-REM sleep. 2-It is the realm of our subconsciousness and only experienced momentarily as we drift off (change from a waking to a sleeping state)to sleep from Alpha and wake from deep sleep (from Delta). 3-It is said that a sense of deep spiritual connection and unity with the universe can be experienced at Theta. 4-Our mind’s most deep-seated programs are at Theta and it is where we experience vivid visualizations, great inspiration, profound creativity and exceptional insight. Unlike our other brain waves, the elusive voice of Theta is a silent voice. 5-IT IS AT THE ALPHA-THETA BORDER ,FROM 7Hz to 8Hz, where the optimal range for visualization, mind programming and using the creative power of our mind begins. It’s the mental state which you consciously create your reality. At this frequency, you are conscious of your surroundings however your body is in deep relaxation. 6-Theta waves are often considered the ‘third eye’ as they help gain wisdom. These become predominant when we do any task that is automatic like driving, washing clothes, shampooing hair, folding clothes, etc. They are also present in daydreaming and paranormal phenomena. 7-Function- Theta waves provide a positive mental state and encourage creativity. They improve your problem-solving skills and increase your memory. The waves improve your focus and help to keep you calm and balanced. 4. DELTA (0.5-4Hz)- (The Deep Sleep Wave) 04 POINTS;- 1-The Delta frequency is the slowest of the frequencies and is experienced in deep, dreamless sleep and in very deep, transcendental meditation where awareness is fully detached. 2-Delta is the realm of our unconscious mind, and the gateway to the universal mind and the collective unconscious, where information received is otherwise unavailable at the conscious level. 3-Among many things, deep sleep is important for the healing process ...as it’s linked with deep healing and regeneration. Hence, not having enough deep sleep is detrimental to your health in more ways than one. 4-Function- Delta waves increase the production of two anti-aging hormones, such as DHEA and melatonin. They help promote deep compassion and empathy for others, improve social intelligence and avoid conflict. The waves facilitate quick healing. 5. GAMMA (above 40Hz) - (The Insight Wave);- This range is the most recently discovered and is the fastest frequency at above 40Hz. While little is known about this state of mind, initial research shows Gamma waves are associated with bursts of insight and high-level information processing. IN A NUTSHELL ;- 06 POINTS;- 1-There are five major brain wave ranges: Beta (12-30Hz) is present in normal waking consciousness and is heightened during times of stress; the Alpha brain wave (7.5-14Hz) in deep relaxation; Theta (4-7.5Hz) in meditation and light sleep; and the slowest, Delta (0.5-4Hz) in deep dreamless sleep and transcendental meditation. 2-The less recognised Gamma is fastest (above 40Hz) and associated with sudden insight. The optimal level for visualization is the Alpha-Theta Border at 7-8Hz. Meditation enables us to move from higher frequency brain waves to lower frequency, which activates different centers in the brain. 4-A simple meditation to use to begin the transition from Beta or Alpha to the Theta State is to focus on the breath. HOW TO ENTER ALPHA MIND POWER? 10 FACTS;- 1-The Alpha level of mind is a mental state of relaxed awareness. Most people only achieve this during meditation or while asleep and dreaming. In this state, we are more aware of our surroundings, of the sounds we hear and the objects we see. Many find it easier to use their imagination in this state. 2-This is the perfect state to tap into your inner creative genius. Many of us unconsciously delve into this state every so often when fully awake. In most cases, we would need an external stimulus such as beautiful music. 3- We pass through this state while going to and out of sleep. If you have ever woken up but still felt semi-unconscious, or had experienced light sleep, that’s the alpha state for you. 4-There is substantial evidence, however, that humans can achieve this state while fully awake and functioning in the world, and that, when they do, it helps them learn, think, and interact more successfully. 5-The most important benefit of Alpha Waves are that they give us direct access to the subconscious mind, which is absolutely perfect for Creative Visualization. 6-There are several states of consciousness, as beta, which are normal levels, alpha, relaxed awareness, theta, a state of meditative trance, and delta, a state of transcendental experience. 7-Of these four mental states, alpha is the level which helps us learn, memorize, interact and read the thoughts and emotions of others. It does this by untangling our brains, and allowing them to work more efficiently, and thus, be more powerful. 8-In the alpha state, much of this clutter is removed. The mind is calmed and slowed to about 7 to 13 cycles per second. The more it is subdued, the better. This allows the brain to be stronger and more perceptive. Some who achieve this state even find that they are able to pick up on the thoughts of others. 9-It is not too difficult to take hold of a few moments in your busy schedule to set some time off for yourself. Take, for example, half an hour at daybreak,you can enjoy the warm morning sunshine by yourself. It is during your private time that you can let your mind and body relax and allow room for meditation to take advantage of the powers of your subconscious. 10-Meditating daily is the first step to training the mind. Scientifically speaking, this is when the energy activity in your brain occurs on a scale of 7 to 13 cycles per second, slower than beta waves but faster than delta and theta waves. 11-You are in your alpha state of mind when you find yourself halfway between normal consciousness and being asleep. You are very relaxed and will often find yourself daydreaming. With a relaxed state of mind, you can more easily focus on visualizing the things you want to happen in your life. EXERCISE FOR ENTERING THE ALPHA STATE;- 04 FACTS;- 1-A popular method of reaching the alpha state is Mind Control Method. This involves closing your eyes and slowly and silently counting backwards from 100 to zero. By the time you get to zero, your mind will enter a more relaxed state, the alpha state of mind, and you will ease into a higher level of consciousness where you have full control of your mind, instead of the other way around. 2-Make yourself comfortable, Lie down on a bed and remove all distracting noise. Soft, gentle background music can help but it’s not necessary. Lock the doors so no one can come in and disturb you. Once you are comfortable, close your eyes and take in several deep breaths. Inhale and exhale slowly. With each breath, let go of any tension left in you. 3-Just relax yourself more with each breath. Once you are relaxed, begin counting from 50 to 1. Every count should equal one inhale and one exhale. With each count, picture the number in your mind. Do not think of anything else except the numbers. If any other thought enters your mind, get rid of it quickly and continue counting. If any tension comes, release it. 4-Do not stop until you reach 1.; If you fail in this exercise, don’t worry. Many don’t make it on their first few tries; it really is hard to focus on nothing but the numbers. Just keep trying again and again until you’ll get it. Eventually you’ll reach the alpha state.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH HAVING EXCESSIVE BETA BRAINWAVES? 04 FACTS;- 1-Beta waves are high-frequency, low-amplitude brain waves that are commonly observed in an awaken state. They are involved in conscious thought and logical thinking, and tend to have a stimulating effect. 2-Having the right amount of beta waves allows us to focus. Prominence of this wave causes anxiety, high arousal, an inability to relax, and stress, whereas its suppression can lead to ADHD, daydreaming, depression, and poor cognition. 3-In optimal conditions beta waves help with conscious focus, memory, and problem solving. These waves can be divided into three specific classifications. A-LOW BETA WAVES (12–15 Hz): known as “beta one” waves and associated mostly with quiet, focused, introverted concentration. B-MID-RANGE BETA WAVES (15–20 Hz): known as “beta two” waves and associated with increases in energy, anxiety, and performance. C-HIGH BETA WAVE (18–40 Hz): known as “beta three” waves and associated with significant stress, anxiety, paranoia, high energy, and high arousal. 4-Its often said that too much of anything is never a good thing, the same with beta brainwaves. Abnormal levels can cause numerous problems, mentally and physically. If you have any of the following problems, its quite possible that you have excessive beta brainwave activity. PROBLEMS OF EXCESSIVE BETA BRAINWAVES;- 1-INSOMNIA(Difficulty In Sleeping);- Insomnia is one of the many problems that come with an increase in beta brainwaves. Always being in a state of alert, the mental processes are less likely to relax, reducing your chances of getting a good nights sleep. If not remedied quickly, the results are sluggishness, anxiety, depression, and a weakened immune system. 2-ANXIETY ATTACKS;- If you are constantly feeling anxious about things you should not be afraid of, then your brain is currently producing excessive beta brainwaves. Without the ability to be calm and collected, panic and fear can dominate your mental state. 3-INCREASED PARANOIA(unjustified suspicion and mistrust of other people);- 02 POINTS;- 1-Along with anxiety, another negative feeling that beta brainwaves can heighten is paranoia. While it may not cause you to become crazy, it might be strong enough for you to become a highly irrational person. 2-A couple examples of increased paranoia are constantly checking on your house’s security, or checking on people you care about every hour for fear that they may be in trouble. 4-RISE IN BLOOD PRESSURE;- Since increased beta brainwave activity can cause stress, anxiety, and fear ..you can also expect a rise in your blood pressure. If high blood pressure is something you want to avoid, be sure to keep your beta brainwaves regulated. 5-MUSCLE PAIN;- Have you experienced joint or muscle pain/tightness whenever you are stressed or anxious about something? It could be the result of excessive beta brainwaves.
